Money Saving Tips

Applesauce

The price of the apples drives the cost of the home made applesauce.  In a food club store, you can purchase 128 ounces of applesauce for about $5.  To make home made cheaper or equal to what it would cost in the store, you need to be able to buy apples for 50 cents a pound or cheaper.  That is $12 for a half bushel (or basket) or $24 per bushel.

Pantry Tips

To reduce your long-term grocery bill, stock up on non-perishable items when they go on sale and you have a coupon for them.  For example, you might not need pasta when it goes on sale, but you might in a month.  In a month, when you need it, go shopping in your own pantry versus the grocery store at full price.  The savings can be significant.

There are some great grocery shopping sites on the web that help you identify the best sale items and what have matching coupons.  Or you can do it yourself.  Just review the ads, and buy the items you will use on sale.

A tip is buy two or more Sunday papers with coupons.  The additional coupon savings will more than pay for the paper and will help reduce the bill.
